Intensive Outpatient Program
Recognizing that people at different points in the recovery process need different levels of care, Harris House now offers Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) from 9am-12pm and 6pm-9pm at our St. Charles location. The Harris House IOP is designed for men and women with alcohol and drug problems who do not require more intensive levels of residential treatment.

Intensive Outpatient Treatment (IOP) offers:
- Successful treatment option for working adults
- Alternative to inpatient treatment
- Continuum of care for clients leaving a residential treatment program
Group sessions include both psycho-educational and process groups on important recovery topics. In addition to group sessions, each client will work with a dedicated counselor to develop an individualized treatment plan. Treatment plans identify unique problems of each client with treatment goals and time specified action plans. The length of the IOP program is between four to twelve weeks, or longer, depending on client need.
Using a holistic approach of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), family therapy, psychoeducation, and 12 step orientation, counselors help clients learn to:
- Understand Addiction as a Disease
- Control Impulses
- Prevent Relapses
- Improve Self Care
- Set Healthy Boundaries
- Increase Self Esteem
- Identify Triggers
- Address Cravings
- Cope with Stress
- Improve Communication Skills
- Identify and Manage Anger, Depression, and Anxiety
- Continue support through aftercare and 12 step programs
Recognizing that substance dependency is a family disease, the Harris House IOP dedicates one hour each week for family group. Family and significant other’s involvement in the assessment and treatment process are strongly encouraged and is integrated as a part of treatment.
IOP clients are strongly encouraged to attend on-site 12-step AA and NA meetings. Clinical services are delivered by MSW, LCSW and LPC level, Missouri State Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselors.
