At Harris House, we advocate a recovery with responsibility program which empowers clients to take control of their treatment and recovery process.
We strive to craft drug rehab programs that suit your needs and your requirements.
We design our individualized and integrated treatment plans, so they treat the whole person – body, mind, and spirit.
By creating drug rehab programs in this way, we can build a solid and lasting foundation for independent and substance-free living, which is why Harris House is one of the top-rated drug rehab centers in the Nation.
We offer many rehabilitation options to fit into everyone’s life, regardless of circumstance, financial capability, or other predisposing factors.
We aim to give everyone who needs help with substance abuse a drug rehab program that works and a drug rehab center where they can feel comfortable and at home during their stay.
Drug rehab programs must be highly specialized to deliver the results required to get someone on a successful path to sobriety. We recognize that different people need different means of care from a drug rehab center, depending on what point they are at in their recovery process.
We allow clients to begin at any point in our continuum of care to meet client-specific needs and give people a solid and lasting foundation for living a life free from substances.
What sets Harris House apart from traditional drug rehab centers is our success, which is based on over 50 years of experience helping people reclaim their lives.
Harris House employs a holistic approach that recognizes the importance of a comprehensive, individualized treatment plan. Additionally, we also ensure that our residents receive training and therapy in other areas such as:
- Employment skills
- Anger and stress management

We understand that treating the whole person, including any of the issues that may have led them down the road to their drug or alcohol dependence, is critical in any drug rehab program.

Intensive Inpatient Care and Detox Services
Our intensive inpatient and detox care services are geared towards people over the age of 18, who have drug and/or alcohol abuse problems.
As previously stated, our intensive inpatient program includes an individualized treatment plan, individual counseling, plus two group sessions every morning and three group sessions every afternoon and evening. We ensure that you’re surrounded by a strong, supportive team throughout your stay, to assist you when you need it the most.
What is Involved in Group Sessions?
Group sessions can be strictly educational, or process oriented.
In education groups, you will be uncovering the physiological damage that addiction causes to the body, disease theory, Alcohol Anonymous steps, trigger identification, and relapse avoidance.
Topics of process groups therapy sessions include, but are not limited to, how to deal with your emotions in healthier ways, family dynamics and reunification basics, anger management, stress management, spirituality, and how to have fun while sober.
Your weekly counseling sessions include the client attending the drug rehab center, as well as their family.
Although we do keep our clients busy to give them the greatest benefit from treatment, Sundays are relaxed a bit more and give our clientele some free time.
Where Will I Be Staying During my Drug Rehab Program?
We offer a state-of-the-art facility in a safe, secure, fenced urban area. Our clients are able to enjoy semi-private rooms, and we offer drug detox programs directly on site.

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
Also referred to as “Day Treatment,” our partial hospitalization program would be your next step in the continuum of care after completing your intensive inpatient stay and detox.
Our PHP sessions are five days a week, lasting 6 hours per day. The number of days approved depends on your progress in achieving your individual treatment plan goals, meaning it could be slightly more or less depending on the specific level of care required.
During your partial hospitalization program, you will be taught cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) techniques and attend Dialectical Behavioral Therapy groups and individualized sessions. All sessions are both educational and process oriented.
These sessions solidify the groundwork you laid in intensive inpatient treatment to live a life of sobriety in the outside world successfully. Ensuring you stay on top of your group sessions, are included in your community, and continually learn better-coping strategies is critical in maintaining your sobriety.
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
To help as many people as possible through our drug rehab center, we also offer our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), designed for men and women with alcohol and drug dependency problems who may not require the intensive level of residential care.
Harris House’s Intensive Outpatient Program:
- Has been proven as a successful treatment option for working adults
- Offers an effective alternative to inpatient care
- Serves as a continuum of care for clients leaving a residential treatment program
What Will my Drug Rehab Program Look Like as an Outpatient?
We offer our IOP program from 9 am to 12 pm and 6 pm to 9 pm at our St. Charles location.
Group sessions include both process and psycho-educational groups on important topics surrounding your recovery.
Our clients work with a dedicated counselor to develop an individualized treatment plan which identifies the unique problems and treatment goals you have as an individual and then matches those up to a suitable action plan to achieve those goals.
The length of our intensive outpatient program is usually between four to twelve weeks, depending on the client’s need.
Additionally, in Intensive Outpatient Rehabilitation, you will be taught cognitive behavioral therapy techniques, where you will learn to:
- Understand addiction as a disease.
- Identify Triggers
- Address Cravings
- Control Impulses
- Set Healthy boundaries
- Improve Self Care
- Increase self-esteem
- Learn to better cope with stress
- Improve your communication skills
- Identify and manage Anger, Depression, and Anxiety
- Continue support through aftercare and 12-step programs (All IOP clients are strongly encouraged to attend on-site 12-step AA and NA Meetings.)
At Harris House, we also recognize that addiction is a family disease, so we dedicate one hour each week to family group therapy.
Family group therapy is where family and significant others in the client’s life are involved in the assessment and treatment process. This inclusion is strongly encouraged and is integrated into your treatment as part of your plan.
Our clinical services are delivered by MSW, LCSW, and LPC level, Missouri State Certified Alcohol, and Drug Counselors.
Transitional Housing at Harris House Drug Rehab Center
Jumping back into the world after undergoing an intensive drug rehab program can, at best, be a daunting undertaking and, at worse, lead the person down the road to relapse. That is why we offer the transitional housing program at Harris House.
Our transitional housing level I program includes subsidized housing, nutritional meals, and individual and group counseling for up to one year.
While graduates of the intensive inpatient drug rehab program receive priority admission, we offer transitional housing to others.
The difference is that the admission process requires an appointment for a screening interview for those not leaving our intensive inpatient program. At this point, a mutual decision will be made regarding the appropriateness of our program for your unique needs.
If approved and placed on the waiting list, you will be required to call Harris House every weekday to maintain your placement on that list.
What is Involved in Harris House’s Transitional Housing Level 1 Program?
Previously known as our long-term residential program, our Transitional Housing level I program is designed to provide ongoing substance abuse treatment. Classes that are provided help clients gain more insight into dealing with issues that could lead them to a relapse. These topics include, but are not limited to:
- Relapse Triggers
- Anger Management
- Trauma Recovery
- Stress Management
- Parenting Skills
- Family Reunification
- Employment Skills such as resume prep, job targeting, and practice interviews
Most of our Transitional Housing Level One Program clients have a dual diagnosis such as depression, anxiety, or bipolar disorder, along with their drug or alcohol addiction.
For this reason, weekly individual counseling sessions are included in addition to up to 8 hours of classes or group work a week.
Clients aged 21-years and older are eligible for highly subsidized rent and meals. Men and women are given their own separate, private accommodations.
Our goal in transitional housing is to continue to build your recovery skills, in familiar surroundings, with familiar faces. We expect patients in transitional housing to be employed after their first weeks in this program since transitional housing is meant to be preparing you for your re-emergence back out into society as a healthy, thriving individuals.
Family Program at Harris House
As previously stated, addiction being a family disease, is often overlooked.
We have found that our clients’ families and loved ones often had numerous questions regarding how drug rehab programs work, what happens if it doesn’t work, how they can be supportive in the most beneficial way, and many other valid questions.
It’s for this reason that Harris House began its Family Program. Family group was developed as a starting point for family members to get the support they need when they need it the most.
While client’s going into a drug rehab center often have a slew of resources at their disposal upon beginning treatment, family members are often left out in the weeds, wondering where they can get the support they so desperately need and deserve.
Family group is held twice a week remotely, via Zoom, on Wednesdays from 6 pm to 7:30 pm and Saturdays from 10 am until 11:30 am.
We accomplish three main goals with every family group:
- Education about addiction and treatment using handouts and videos,
- Time to share your own stories, struggles, and victories with the group.
- Time to ask questions.
A Harris House counselor leads each group, and we often bring in speakers to share their experiences and where they were able to find support in the St. Louis Community.
Topics include, but are not limited to:
- Boundaries and Communication
- Al-Anon
- Aftercare Planning
- Stages of Recovery
- Addiction as a Disease
- Recovery and Sobriety
We realize that to have successful clients who maintain their sobriety for the long term, it’s critical to give their support systems the help and encouragement they require to help our clients once they leave our facilities and programs.
