What if myself or my loved one has a dual diagnosis? How will treatment benefit them?
Have you ever struggled with both substance dependency as well as anxiety, depression, disordered eating, trauma or another mental health issue?
Dual diagnosis treatment at Harris House assesses each individual as a whole person, knowing that we rarely have clients that come in without a co-occurring mental health issue. Knowledgeable and trained counselors are able to assess and individualize treatment plans to not only treat substance dependency but also any other mental health diagnosis that an individual has, in a non-judgmental and caring way. We are able to treat an individual with dual diagnosis by:
- Assessing and determining an accurate diagnosis of your mental health disorder(s), as they are at times hard to diagnose due to chemical dependency and self-medicating to alleviate mental health symptoms.
- Incorporating parallel treatment of your mental health and substance abuse disorders with group and individual therapy, medication management, and treatment planning.
- Acknowledgement of the importance of psycho-therapeutic medications, such as antidepressants or anti-anxiety medications, in the treatment of co-occurring disorders, with the guidance of a qualified RN and psychiatrist.
- A supportive approach to therapy that reinforces self-esteem and builds self-confidence through Recovery with Responsibility.
- An inclusive treatment strategy that brings partners, spouses, children and other family members into therapy for counseling or family education groups/meetings.
Admitting and being involved in substance dependency treatment is an already difficult process. At Harris House, we want to make sure that any other mental health issue, diagnosed or undiagnosed, is treated with the best therapy, medication management and support that an individual can find.
