Ambien

Ambien Addiction Treatment Program

CALL US TODAY

314-631-4299

End your battle with Ambien abuse today with our medically-assisted, patient-focused detox program

Most people have nights where they cannot fall asleep no matter how much they want to or try to relax. But those are usually few and far between, unless you suffer from insomnia. Then you might need pharmaceutical help like Ambien.

Ambien (brand name of zolpidem) is a sleeping pill in a class of drugs called ”sedative-hypnotics.” It has the same medical effectiveness as drugs like Xanax without the same habit-forming properties. Even though Ambien was designed and marketed as a less addictive alternative, it is still an addictive substance.

People who are prescribed Ambien might find that they need to take more of the drug in order to get the desired drowsy effect. This signals a dependence on the drug and can lead to abuse of it as they try to get the same effects as the first time they tried it.

If you stop taking Ambien abruptly, or ”cold turkey,” you will likely experience withdrawal symptoms, especially after using the drug for a prolonged period of time.

Ambien withdrawal symptoms include:

  • Agitation and irritability
  • Insomnia
  • Delirium
  • Cravings
  • Convulsions and seizures in severe cases

The first step in our Ambien addiction treatment program is a medical detox with a licensed doctor to keep patients as safe and comfortable as possible. After the medical detox is complete, we move on to the next steps in the rehab process.

How do I know if I or a loved one is addicted to Ambien?

Ambien is a sleeping pill used to treat acute insomnia. It produces a substantial sedative effect and slows brain activity. Many people don’t realize they have a problem until they stop taking the drug. They recognize it when they can’t sleep without it after as little as two weeks.

You build a tolerance to the drug and need larger doses to fall asleep. Then your dependence on the drug is stronger, and it’ll be harder to stop taking it without help.

Signs of an Ambien addiction:

  • Taking the drug for longer than prescribed
  • Unsuccessfully attempting to stop using the drug
  • A strong, compulsive desire to obtain and use more of the drug
  • Taking the drug at times other than right before sleep

If you have any or several of these physical or behavioral symptoms, please contact Harris House today at 314-328-7938 to talk with one of our counselors about an evaluation and admission.
