When looking into a St. Louis 28-day residential treatment program, potential clients will usually have a flood of questions entering their minds.
“What is the best type of treatment for me?”
“What is involved in a 28-day residential treatment program versus a longer treatment program?”
“What is the main goal during my time in treatment?”
It can be a very emotionally and mentally exhausting process. At Harris House, we offer a 28-day residential treatment program and longer-term inpatient care to cover the needs of all our clients.
We find that offering different treatment programs also help with our client’s comfortability and overall success since clients enrolled in a program, they feel good about will inevitably have better outcomes than those who are stuck in a long-term inpatient program and may not need that intensity of treatment.
Why are Multiple Durations of Treatment offered at Your St. Louis Rehabilitation Center?
We offer different lengths of stay for multiple reasons.
Firstly, we believe everyone deserves to receive the care they need at a price they can afford. Some insurance companies will only approve a 28-day stay at an inpatient residential facility; a large reason we have our 28-day rehabilitation program available. Harris House also has a continuum of care, after leaving residential treatment, that takes these insurance restrictions into consideration.
Secondly, some clients do not require an intensive, long-term residential treatment program, such as a 60-day or 90-day rehabilitation program. While there are cases where a more extended stay is vital and encouraged regardless of insurance carrier – but that’s not always the case.
Our goal is to get people well and help them return to their lives confidently and sober as quickly as the client can do so safely, minimizing the chance of relapse.
For some, a 28-day residential treatment program and ongoing outpatient care is the right combination of treatment modalities to get them the best results possible from our St. Louis rehabilitation center.
Additionally, we understand that everyone’s situation is unique. While it may be a possibility for some clients to engage in a long-term program at our St. Louis rehabilitation center, that may not be feasible for everyone. Those with children, jobs with time off restrictions, or who may care for an older loved one also deserve the same care and personalized treatment as people whose lives are a little less hectic.
It’s for these reasons, we offer a multitude of treatment options. From long-term inpatient stays to outpatient care, our 28-day residential treatment program is the best of both worlds, designed to fit people’s lives.
The final decision on what type of treatment you will enroll in will be decided between you, your counselor, and the staff at Harris House.
What Can I Expect From a 28-Day Residential Treatment Program?
The fear of the unknown can stop even the best of us in our tracks, even when seeking the care we need.
If you understand what is involved in the process, what is included in the program, and get an overall feeling for the 28-day residential treatment program and its facility, taking the steps to turn your desire for sobriety into a reality will be much easier for you to undertake.
For that reason, let’s discuss what you should expect from your 28-day residential treatment program and your stay at our St. Louis rehabilitation center.
An Overview of the Treatment Plan
Our 28-day rehabilitation program is for men and women over the age of 18 with drug or alcohol dependencies. Our St. Louis rehabilitation center is a state-of-the-art facility located in a secure, fenced-in urban location.
Clients all have semi-private rooms and should pack for their stay accordingly.
A typical treatment plan involves individual counseling, plus two group meetings every morning, and three group sessions every afternoon and evening.
We also offer weekly counseling sessions that involved not only you, but your family and loved ones. Although we keep our clients busy with program activities day and night, we do relax the schedule slightly on Sundays to allow for some needed free time.
Let’s look at what else happens during your stay.
Detoxification
As with most inpatient facilities, detoxification is the first stop on your care plan.
One of the reasons Harris House is the top 28-day rehabilitation program in the nation is because we offer detox on-site. This means once you arrive, you do not need to deal with the stress of switching facilities. We can handle everything you need, from detox to your continuum of care, all under one roof.
Detox is where we will be working to keep you comfortable, as you allow the addictive substance or substances you have been consuming to leave your body.
Detoxing at a facility is much different than the popularized version of detox, which often plays out in television and movies.
Detoxification is a medical treatment aimed at reducing the impact of withdrawal symptoms on the body. Detox usually lasts around seven days and is monitored by trained medical professionals who can also give specific medications when indicated to assist with the comfortability of the detox process.
We monitor clients carefully to ensure they also maintain bodily health. Our clients also receive counseling from our trained staff to assess how they are mentally and emotionally throughout the process.
Counseling and Planning for Long-Term Success
After detoxification, the client usually has around 21 days left of their 28-day residential treatment program.
These 21 days are when our team gets to work on counseling our clients and helping them to recognize the reasons for their drug or alcohol dependence. In tandem, the team at our St. Louis rehabilitation center will be deciding on the best strategic methods they can integrate into your care plan to help mitigate the chances of a relapse.
Clients may receive multiple treatment modalities, such as cognitive-behavioral or behavior modification therapy. Once you complete our 28-day residential treatment program, you can continue receiving the same or similar therapies through our outpatient alcohol programs or other external counseling.
What if I Have Other Mental Health Factors? Dual Diagnosis at Harris House
Dual diagnosis treatment at Harris House assesses every person who comes through our doors as a whole person. We realize we rarely have clients who come to our 28-day inpatient rehabilitation program without a co-occurring mental health issue.
For this reason, our staff of knowledgeable, trained counselors can assess and individualize your treatment plan. We create these individualized programs for every client at our St. Louis rehabilitation center; that way, we are not only considering a client’s substance dependency but also considering any other mental health diagnoses that a client may have.
Those with chemical dependencies will often arrive with misdiagnoses due to their previous doctor being unaware of their addictions.
Other times, clients will have been self-medicating for so long that they are not even sure what issues are arising from a concurrent mental health issue and what is from their chemical dependency.
We work diligently to treat our clients as the individuals they are, without judgment, and incorporate the appropriate mental health treatment into your substance abuse disorder one-on-one and group therapies to help you get the most out of your 28-day residential treatment program at our St. Louis rehabilitation center.
In doing so, we can provide a supportive approach to therapy that reinforces your self-esteem and builds self-confidence through Recovery with Responsibility. Dual Diagnosis is also an inclusive treatment strategy, bringing partners, children, and other family members into therapy for counseling or family education groups and meetings.
Our goal is for you to be able to leave our 28-Day residential treatment program not only clean and sober but with a solid game-plan to stay healthy and happy long after your stay with us is over.
What Happens After I Complete My 28-Day Residential Program at Your St. Louis Rehabilitation Center?
Since we recognize that different people are at various stages of their recovery, our clients may enter our continuum of care at any stage.
After completing our modern, 28-day residential treatment program, clients may continue with several options depending upon their specific needs.
Sober Living Facilities
After completing your 28-day residential treatment program, you may decide to move into a sober living environment.
Moving directly back into your old environment, where your chemical dependency was at its worst, can be at minimum triggering and potentially lead to a full-blown relapse.
Transitional housing can help create a balance of structure, support, and freedom, allowing our clients to test the waters of living a life of sobriety while still having the resources to assist them when cravings hit, or a day sends them into a spiral.
Outpatient Therapy
Our intensive outpatient therapy, or IOP, is an alternative to a transitional housing program after completing your 28-day residential treatment program.
Intensive outpatient therapy at our St. Louis rehabilitation center will likely be different from how your 28-day residential treatment program therapy would have looked.
Outpatient therapy, while giving clients the freedom to enter the outside world more thoroughly than a transitional housing program, still creates a sense of responsibility for the client as they will need to show up for follow-up appointments with their treatment team.
This sense of responsibility can benefit a client just entering the world for the first time since attaining sobriety. During that transitional period, it’s critical to have engaging, safe things to do and be able to busy yourself while also ensuring you maintain a support system every step of the way.
Support Groups
Seeking out a support group, or a 12-Step Meeting group, that you feel at home in is crucial to maintaining your sobriety after leaving our 28-day residential treatment program.
Most people have heard of AA, or NA, and its various other counterparts, but many have attended a meeting themselves. Our team will help you find local meetings that meet your needs, ensuring you always have as much recovery support around you as possible.
While these meetings may feel awkward for first-timers, during your 28-day residential treatment program, you’ll be introduced to this meeting style so that you will feel more comfortable walking into your first meeting outside of our St. Louis rehabilitation facility.
Additional Services to Help You Reintegrate Back into Society
In addition to the inpatient counseling that you will be encouraged to continue attending after completing your 28-day residential treatment program, services such as resume writing help, interview tactics, and finding appropriate job placement are all supportive services that we offer at our St. Louis rehabilitation facility.
Another service that our facility offers is assistance with finding appropriate housing. Often, it’s not healthy or safe to return to the home or area you had been living in during your dependency. We can guide you to the right people who can assist you in finding new employment and new housing where you can feel safe and secure in living your life of sobriety.
The combination of treatments offered at our St. Louis rehabilitation center and ongoing supportive care after residential treatment helps our clients overcome their chemical dependencies.
